The JSO vs. The Marching Band : Miner Madness : Project Smith : Upcoming
MINER MADNESS (2005)
In late 2002, we knew that we wanted to get into the casual gaming market and distribute our next game through the Shareware model. Most of the games coming from indie developers at this time were the traditional top-down puzzle-style games that you could pick up and learn to play within a couple minutes. At the time, we weren’t ready to move into the 3D market, and for a casual puzzle game, you really didn’t need it.

We got the initial idea for Miner Madness in December 2002. We worked on it for a few years, eventually releasing it on June 15th, 2005. Development took longer than it probably should have, although to our credit, we were in college at the time. We didn’t approach the project with a solid design document, nor did we have strongly-defined goals. Although we encountered a good amount of feature creep, we really came out with a solid game in the end, which we were satisfied with.
